MOBILE CUT-UPS

Conversations are our conscious and deliberate bridge to other people. Verbal communication is arguably the richest and most meaningful form of communication that we engage in. Who we think we are is both betrayed and defined by the things we say in conversation, whether that conversation is with someone we're close to or someone we don't know. Using our conversations as content, I'm developing a project that will help us reflect on who we think we are and on the nature of our relationships with other people.

Mobile Cut-ups is a prototype application for cell phones that records our conversations, cuts them up into their component statements, questions and utterances, and re-arranges them to form a new conversation. The de-contextualization and re-juxtaposition of the content of our conversations is intended to challenge our memory and perception of that conversation and, ultimately, to make us think about who we think we are as indicated by what we say, when we say it, and how we say it.
